Brussels-based artists Virgile Demo & Karolina Dema showcase several exclusive pieces from their ongoing series, INAUGURATION, for Issue Nº6 of Ensemble Magazine.
INAUGURATION is an ongoing series of paintings, drawings, and sketchbook images by the artistic duo Demo & Dema. The series focuses on the clothes worn during the 2021 United States Presidential Inauguration, highlighting the importance of fashion to convey messages of power, unity, and emancipation.
INAUGURATION also questions the flow of visual information we are fed with on a daily basis. Painting and drawing is a way of slowing down the news cycle, by treating historical events as a source of inspiration that can be revisited over and over again.
Demo & Dema is an artistic duo formed by painters Virgile Demo & Karolina Dema, currently based in Brussels, Belgium. Their work explores the relations between fashion and politics in the broad sense, specifically focusing on representations of power through clothing.
