Color Series

University of Edinburgh student and artist, Mizra Kara, shares her color series in various mediums for Issue Nº6 of Ensemble Magazine.

In my practice, I focus on how singular colours can express emotion through portraiture. I am particularly interested in how the viewer interprets these colours and aligns them to their own situations. Initially the work represented the colours I felt best expressed my personal struggle with chronic illness, but now my work hopes to invite the viewer to a similarly intimate space where they feel they can express themselves through the colours they are looking at, delving deep into their personal emotions.  I am inspired by artists like Marlene Dumas and Dana Schutz, for their work exploring similar themes of emotion and an individual's state of mind.

I work with various mediums including digital, gouache, acrylic and printmaking.
